The Scottish open at Loch Lomond is the traditional curtain raiser to next weeks Open Championship, but it is a wonderful tournament in it's own rite played at one of the most picturesque courses I have ever seen.

The young Argentine Andres Romero is yet another stunning young player to come from South America, and follows in the footsteps of Cabrera himself and his childhood mentor Eduardo Romero. Andres is playing great golf this year. The young gun has won his first tournament on US soil in the shape of the Zurich Classic, and he finished a very creditable 8th at the Masters. He clearly loves it here too as he was a 2 shot second here at a massive price back in 2006. He is a master of the greens too ( 31st in putts in GIR ) which is the main key here at a course where putting over driving accuracy is the key.

His fellow argentine has still not really turned a hair since his US open victory of last year, and could be going into "Michael Campbell" mode.

He has a decent enough record around here with top 20's in the last 3 years, but his form this year is no great shakes at all. His best finish was a T14th at the French open, and in America other than 5th in the matchplay in the early part of the year he has done very litlle to worry me on this bet, add to that the fact he is a very lowly 188th in putts in GIR, and I think we have a great bet to start the tournament off with.

I'm going to stick my head on the line here and say Ernie IS BACK !!!!

I truly beleive he is out of the doldrums, and ready for a win, possibly this week, and possibly next week in the Open. He has finally started to get to grips with his new swing, and he very nearly went and won the US open before fading over the back 9. He has won the Honda classic this year and was a very good T6th in TPC Sawgrass behind Sergio. He has a fabulous record here which is bettered by no one, and it includes 2 wins, 2 3rds and a 9th since 2000. He is -77 for his last 28 rounds on the famous Loch course and he is looking back to his very best. Add to this the fact that he has now been reunited with previosu long time caddie Ricci Roberts, and you have a great shout at 10/1 for the tournament, and a very good bet to beat Lee Westwood, who although has a great recent streak, has probably one eye on next week, and hasn't had a top 15 here in the past 5 years.

 Odds : 1.91
 Stake : 8 / 10
