The final major of the season gets underway at Oakland Hills on Thursday, and I'm taking the rejuvenated Fijian to beat the frustrating american over 72.

Vijay has been turning back the clock since his woeful display at Birkdale where he was blown away with a first round 80. He actually hit one of the better 2nd rounds there (71), and just missed the cut by a shot. if he'd have nade it, who knows what would have happended over the weekend, as it was a truly memorable weekend of golf. Last week Vijay won the WGC bridgestone at Firestone from a stellar field, and that was when his putting wasn't up to much. His putting will be tested much more this week, but he will still have the euphoric feeling of winning a tournament to take him into the weakest of majors, and in a recent interview, he says he feels like a 25 year old again. This is in stark difference to Jim Furyk who fudged it round a course last week where he was a relatively short priced favourtie, due to his tremendous success there in recent years.

He has been playing seemingly every week for the past few months now, and surely fatigue will play a big part on Jim's game over this tough course.

Vijay aslo has course form here as well, as he had a top 10 to his name when Steve Jones won the US open here 12 years ago.

All the boxes are ticked for me here, and it will be my biggest bet in the tournament this week.

Pick : Vijay Singh to beat Jim Furyk 72 hole match bet USPGA
 Odds : 1.91
 Stake : 8 / 10
 Bookmaker : BlueSQ

The big easy cost me a good few quid at the Open at Birkdale after his horror show first round, however, after scraping in the cut he actually made a decent fist of the weekend and finished tied 7th. At Firestone last week he also played good golf and finished T27, and this was with a horrible second round 74. He is slowly coming good with his new swing changes, and he will be 100% fit and raring to go this week on a course where he finished with the bronze medal in the 96 US open behind Jones.

With Woods out of the hospital now, he won't have an "easier" chance to win a major, and he will see this as a big opportunity to add to his tally.

Aussie Adam Scott coudl easily win this tournament by 7 shots, or miss the cut by 7 shots !!

he is not playing very well at the moment and after a very accompished level par first round at the open he faded over the weekend to T16th. he didn't play Firestone much better last week either and he stumbled to +5 and T56th for his troubles. Like Els he had a bad 2nd round, but unlike Els , he didn't recover well from it. With Els experience of the course, and Scott's very in and out form, I'm going for the big easy here over 72.
